Travel Status & Alerts
Monitor conditions that could affect your safety, transportation, lodging, or ability to complete University business. Conditions may change before or during a trip, so travelers should rely on current information from authoritative sources.
Check current travel conditions
Use the following sources to review current security, health, transportation, and destination information. Registered travelers may also receive alerts from Crisis24 based on their itinerary.
| Resource | Use it to |
|---|---|
| UC Systemwide Travel Advisories | Review advisories issued by the University of California and any associated campus protocols. |
| U.S. Department of State Travel Advisories | Review destination-specific security risks, advisory levels, entry information, and U.S. embassy resources. |
| CDC Travelers’ Health | Review destination-specific health notices, disease risks, vaccinations, and recommended precautions. |
| Crisis24 Travel Resources | Receive itinerary-based travel alerts and access location-specific security information. |
| Airline, rail, hotel, or rental provider | Confirm current operating conditions, cancellations, delays, closures, or reservation changes. |
While traveling
- Monitor Crisis24, airline, transportation, lodging, and destination alerts.
- Follow instructions from local authorities and emergency-management agencies.
- Avoid demonstrations, unrest, closed areas, or other locations identified as unsafe.
- Maintain communication with the department, program leader, or designated campus contact.
- Confirm that someone at UCR has the current itinerary and a reliable way to reach the traveler.
- Keep emergency contacts, identification, travel documents, medications, and essential supplies accessible.
- Do not enter an area that has become unsafe solely to preserve an itinerary or avoid a financial loss.
Keep travel registration current
Registered travelers receive destination alerts through UC’s travel-security provider and can be identified by UCR Risk Management during a crisis.
Travel booked through Concur or ConnexUC is generally registered automatically, except for SWABIZ bookings. Travel booked through SWABIZ or outside the UC travel program must be registered manually in UC Away.
If a trip changes materially, confirm that the registration reflects the traveler’s current dates and locations. Update a manually registered trip in UC Away and contact UCR Risk Management if assistance is needed.
If conditions disrupt the trip
When an alert, emergency, or transportation disruption affects the itinerary:
- Address immediate safety and medical needs first.
- Contact the airline, travel agency, hotel, or other provider regarding available changes.
- Notify the department or program leader when the disruption affects the traveler’s location, business activity, cost, or return date.
- Contact UCR Risk Management when conditions present a significant health, security, or travel risk.
- Contact Chubb-AXA Global Travel Assistance when medical, security, evacuation, or other emergency travel assistance may be needed.
- Retain cancellation notices, revised itineraries, receipts, and documentation supporting any additional expense.
